New/Recent Books

In my ongoing quest to know about every book and journal published (which I know won’t happen, but I’ll still dream), I came across a publisher I hadn’t heard of.

Mission Bell Media is library-focused, but they publish about topics that are potentially relevant to archivists working in libraries. They have a leadership series that is topic specific, including African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American, Sports, and a Glossary. I have not seen these in person, but they seem to beĀ reference guides with multiple entries.

I’m more intrigued by their Peak Series, which has an forthcoming book about library academic publishing and writing.

If anyone has heard about or looked at/read them, let me know!

  1. These appear to be encyclopedias. I looked at the credentials of the editor of the African American Leadership title, he is an academic and has expertise in the subject matter; the entries are well written. I was surprised that there weren’t entries for the Black Panther Party or the Black Arts Movement, but maybe future editions. They did have a section on the Black Power Movement, so that’s good. I’ll check the Asian and Hispanic titles too. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

  2. The Peak Series does seem impressive; it has some of our most respected librarians as authors, Trevor Dawes, Stephen Bell, Maureen Sullivan, Char Booth, etc. I’ll have to make sure I get a copy.
